Schedule Announced for 2009 US SAILING Racing Rules Seminars Presented by North U
Portsmouth, R.I. (December 1, 2008) - US SAILING, national governing body for
the sport, and North U, a provider of educational sailing programs focused on
improving the sailing skills of racing sailors, have announced the 2009 schedule
of the new US SAILING Racing Rules Seminars Presented by North U. The calendar
includes about 40 Seminars at sailing organizations in more than 20 states
across the country. The announcement of the new Seminars comes as sailors
nationwide prepare for the new Racing Rules of Sailing for 2009-2012, which will
take effect January 1, 2009. See further down below for the 2009 schedule of the
US SAILING Racing Rules Seminars Presented by North U or visit
www.ussailing.org/sponsorship/rule_seminars.asp.
The US SAILING Racing Rules Seminar presented by North U is an intensive
full-day program taught by top experts in the field, including Understanding the
Racing Rules author Dave Perry; Learn the Racing Rules DVD creator David
Dellenbaugh; America's Cup Chief Umpire Brad Dellenbaugh; America's Cup Champion
Peter Isler; North U Director Bill Gladstone; and international champions like
Todd Berman, Andrew Kerr, Dobbs Davis, Geoff Moore, and Steve LeMay.
The Seminar curriculum covers all of the rules, including those newly adopted in
the 2009-2012 Racing Rules of Sailing, such as the revision of Rule 18
concerning mark roundings and the elimination of Rule 17.2. Attendees will learn
the underlying principles of the rules through interactive exercises, quizzes
and situational games as applied to situations around the entire racecourse.
Topics covered include resolving conflicts and transitions with position
changes, using the rules to shape and control tactics, and understanding the
critical difference between a controlling position and the right-of-way. Each
participant will receive a one-of-a-kind Rules Workbook - written by Dave Perry
and Bill Gladstone and edited by David Dellenbaugh and Peter Isler - ensuring
that seminar participants will come away with a thorough understanding of the
2009-2012 Racing Rules of Sailing.
The cost of the Seminar is $155 for sailors who are not members of US SAILING.
Members receive a discount of $40 off the registration. Special discounts are
also available for additional crew, US SAILING-certified Judges, Umpires and
Race Officers, as well as for junior sailors and students. For those wishing to
join US SAILING or renew their US SAILING membership, a Seminar package which
includes a one-year individual membership and the 2009-2012 Racing Rules of
Sailing book is offered at $175.
