Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County, Inc. presents Beacon of Light Awards... Honorees include Charlie Isiminger of Isiminger and Stubbs Engineering, Wayne Huizenga, Jr. of Rybovich Marina and Yacht Yard and Palm Beach County Economic Development Director Kevin Johns The Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County, Inc. (MIAPBC) proudly recognized three outstanding individuals and organizations as recipients of the MIAPBC Beacon of Light Awards for their unfailing support of the county’s $2 billion marine industry. The awards were presented April 29 at Old Port Cove Yacht Club and Marina. MIAPBC Board President Amy Tolderlund of Sea Tow Palm Beach presided over the awards ceremony. The Beacon of Light Awards were awarded in three categories: Marine Advocate of the Year awarded to Kevin Johns, Director of the Palm Beach County Office of Economic Development; Marine Project of the Year awarded to Wayne Huizenga, Jr. for the redevelopment of Rybovich Yacht Yard and Marina ; and Member of the Year Charlie Isiminger. Each of the Beacon of Light Award winners received a handsome engraved award featuring a scale replica of the Jupiter Lighthouse, designed and created by noted artist Jack Dupuis of Jupiter. Marine Advocate of the Year is presented to an individual, group or organization whose work is recognized as supporting, promoting and protecting the sound growth of the marine industry in Palm Beach County for the benefit and education of the boating public and the environment. The Marine Advocate of the Year for 2008 is Kevin Johns, Director of the Palm Beach County Office of Economic Development. Johns received the award for his leadership in recognizing the marine industry as a key component in the county’s economic engine and for pursuing private and public partnerships and opportunities to advance the interests of the marine industries. The Marine Project of the Year is awarded to the person or organization that initiated, is responsible for, defended, promoted or otherwise supported a project that enhances boating opportunities in the Palm Beaches. The award was presented toWayne Huizenga Jr., owner of Rybovich Yacht Yard & Marina. He has led the transformation of the already very successful Rybovich facility into a world class destination port for the ever- increasing number of mega yachts from around the globe. The redevelopment of Rybovich has had a major economic impact to Palm Beach County. In a recent economic impact analysis performed by Lambert Advisory, it was estimated the redevelopment of Rybovich Boatyard and Marina will have a cumulative total economic output for Palm Beach County of more than $1 billion during the next ten years MIAPBC Member of the Year is Charlie Isiminger, President of Isiminger and Stubbs Engineering, located in North Palm Beach. Immediate Past President of the MIAPBC, he distinguished himself during his two year term as president as a local and statewide leader on issues related to the streamlining of environmental permitting of marine projects and the fair assessment of waterfront properties – working to ensure the continuing vitality of marine businesses in Palm Beach County and throughout the State of Florida.
