Mussel Buster Propeller Protection maximizes boating
performance and keeps you in your boat instead of under it With gasoline selling for more than $4 a gallon in most marinas, boat owners are looking to cut their fuel costs through any means possible. Many are turning to the new Mussel Buster Propeller Protection system with impressive results. Boat owners report improved performance such as 6 gallons an hour on a 57’ Viking. “Since I began using Mussel Buster a year ago, I’ve seen my boat’s performance increase and my fuel bill decrease,” said Bruce Melnick, a vice president with the Boeing Corporation. “I’ve been a boat owner for 20 plus years and I have never seen a coating that performs anywhere near Mussel Buster’s level.” The fouling resistant coating is applied to a properly cleaned and prepared propeller and significantly retards the growth of barnacles and other marine organisms. This results in reduced drag, improved performance and increased fuel efficiency. The propeller then becomes virtually self-cleaning, reducing cleaning time and cleaning costs. “It really is a revolutionary coating system for marine hardware,” said Jack Thygesen, president of Matrix Engineering Concepts which invented the process and is marketing it to boat builders and individual boat owners/Captains alike. Left unprotected, a propeller will have barnacles growing on it after as little as one week in the water, Thygesen said. But a propeller coated with the Mussel Buster Propeller Protection system is likely to be maintenance free after more than two years in the water, depending the specific situation. Thygesen recommends if owners are not going to run the boat at least every other month, to use a Scotchbrite® pad or nylon scouring pad and clean the wheels, but no more scraping should be required. Many boaters using the product report only minor marine growth two to four years following the application, most of which can be rubbed off with a
gloved hand. At a haul-out, take 320 sandpaper and give a modest scuffing to re vitalize the surface. Boat builders including Viking and Rybovich are now coating some propellers with Mussel Buster Propeller Protection at their service facilities in “This product has no equal,” he said. “The savings that boaters will experience in fuel consumption, coupled with potentially enhanced performance and the convenience of not having to clean the propeller/s every time you want to use the boat makes Mussel Buster an ideal product for any boat owner.” For more information, contact Matrix Engineering Concepts, Inc., |
